Who we are? Read our Story
Children with special needs may have a broad range of challenges which include developmental or congenital defects, learning disabilities, psychiatric conditions, or medical mishaps. These challenges may last a lifetime, prompting the need for lifetime support and care in dealing with the day-to-day issues of social, academic and emotional needs. Nevertheless it is important to note that children with special needs also have specialised skills particularly around pattern recognition that are uncommon in the general population. The skills when nurtured can add significant value to the economy.
At BMS Foundation, however, we believe that early access to specially designed programmes tailored to the individual’s special needs will greatly improve a child’s ability and enhance their chances of succeeding in school, work and life. We are confident that the provision of special services in education, training and skills development will improve the child’s social life, enhance their emotional status and reduce extreme poverty.
BMS Foundation was established by Mr. Bernard Lomotey Agbloe on February 1, 2019. It was borne out of the growing concern for addressing the problems encountered by children with special needs in Ghana. In spite of the increasing population of this segment of society, little or no attention has been given to their concerns. It is the intention of the foundation to mobilize active stakeholders to influence policies and initiatives that have lasting impact on children with special needs.
